Another fantastic day is in the books at the Huntsman World Senior Games. With brilliant weather and great competition, men’s softball transitiones from pool play to the double elimination tournament tomorrow. Archery got underway with Olympic style target shooting and cycling enjoyed its first day of competition.

For many, the highlight of the day was the opening ceremonies. Diamond Talent provided the talented singers and dancers that set an inspiring tone with the theme being Celebrate Peace. The show kicked off with the parade of athletes with thousands of purple-shirted athletes marching into Legend Solar Stadium. Skydivers thrilled the crowd as they entered the arena from the sky and a children’s choir sang the National Anthem. The audience clapped and sang along to a couple of different musical medlleys from the 1960s and Mayor Jon Pike and Huntsman family representative Paul Huntsman extended a warm welcome to the athletes.

Perhaps the highlight of the night was the special guest speaker, James Lawrence, the Iron Cowboy. Lawrence is most famous for completing 50 Ironman distance triathlons in 50 consecutive days 50 different states. He shared a part of his incredible journey providing inspiration and motivation for the thousands in attendance.

For those who were unable to attend the ceremonies, Community Education Chanel live streamed the event and the archive of the show is available here.
