It’s almost October, which can mean only one thing – the Huntsman World Senior Games is almost upon us. We can’t wait.
If you’ve competed in the track & field event in the past, you know a couple of things. First, the event is well run and full of great people who are passionate about doing their best. You also know that the track at Snow Canyon High School where the event has been held is lacking. The hot St. George sun has baked a few cracks in the surface to say the least. We’ve been aware of it for a while.
When Dixie State University announced that they would be adding a women’s track team and renovating their own track, we could not have been more excited. We immediately scheduled a meeting with university administration and began negotiations. They were excited to become the host of the Huntsman World Senior Games. We talked about timeline and we all felt that the facility would be ready for the 2017 Games.
With that in mind, we moved the dates of our track and field event to accommodate the opening ceremonies, which take place at the same venue, and we crossed our fingers that it would all come together. We’ve waited as long as we can, hoping things would fall into place, but it appears perhaps we were a little too optimistic in our hopes. The university track is completed and it is beautiful. We can’t wait to get you on this brand new state-of-the-art surface. In fact, race walking and power walking will be held there. The problem is that the field events are not completed.
Therefore we’ve reached a compromise. We’ve moved our track and field event to Dixie High School, just a few blocks from Dixie State University. I’ll be honest, the track surface there is not perfect, but it is in better condition than what we’ve had at Snow Canyon High School. Dixie High School also offers better parking options. So we’re making progress.
I met with Dixie State University President the day before yesterday and he once again confirmed their excitement about hosting the Games on campus. We are excited too and believe that next year we’ll be there and you will love it. In the meantime, just a reminder that the dates and locations for this year’s event are as follows:
Dates: Monday –
Wednesday, October 16 – 18, 2017
Venue: Dixie High School (775 South 100 East, St. George)
Parking: West side of the stadium is open and available for event parking

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to strive to provide you the Huntsman World Senior Games experience you deserve.
All the best,
