Can I just say, "I love my job!" This morning the Huntsman World Senior Games staff was invited to the SunRiver Lawn Bowls Green to better their understanding of the game of lawn bowls. First, it couldn’t have been a more glorious day in beautiful Southern Utah. And the member of the SunRiver Lawn Bowls Club could not have been more gracious. Most of us had little understanding of the game of lawn bowls, especially the intricacies of strategy and etiquette. But, our teachers were so good that by the end of our matches we had learned that the white ball was called the “jack,” and the objects that we rolled were not balls but “bowls.” We also learned about how each bowl is weighted, so the person rolling must factor not just distance and speed but also how each roll might break as it travels across the lawn. Mostly we learned that lawn bowls is a great sport for all ages and abilities. It’s not too difficult to learn the fundamentals, but as we watched the “pros,” we knew that it would take dedication and hard work to be competitive. Thanks SunRiver Lawn Bowls Club for the invite, the instruction and the introduction to such a fun sport!
