Today competition kicked off early with badminton, basketball shoot for the women and handgun shooting all starting as at 8:00 AM. The 10K road race also started as the sun rose above the red rocks of Snow Canyon State Park with a gold medal performance and over-all best time by Kyle Klickir of Philipsburg, MT with a mark of 40:50.7. To make the victory even sweeter, Klickir is in the 60 – 64 age group beating out younger runners. Not too far behind him, Riva Johnson of Bend, OR, crossed the line at 44:50.0, first for the women. The 10K race was run in honor of long-time sports director Debbie Zockol, who passed away earlier this year after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

In addition, everyone is invited to attend the must-see Huntsman World Senior Games opening ceremonies featuring special guest speaker, Anne Abernathy at Greater Zion Stadium at Dixie State University. Discovering the luge at the age of 31, Abernathy has been inspiring people with her hard work and dedication ever since. Check out the recent Active Life podcast for a sneak peek.  In additional to Abernathy, there will be singing, dancing, an amazing firework display and the traditional lighting of the Games’ cauldron. All the festivities being at 7:00 PM. Athletes wishing to participate in the Parade of Athletes should arrive at 6:30 PM. A free shuttle service is available from most parking lots on campus.
