Over 2,700 athletes checked-in at the Dixie Convention Center for the 31st annual Huntsman World Senior Games on Sunday, October 8, 2017. Most of those athletes will now lace up their competitive shoes for the sporting events that begin on Monday, October 9.

In addition to the check-in, hundreds of athletes were also honored at the annual Endurance Awards. This year 230 people will be presented with their 15-year ring, 69 athletes have earned their 20-year watch. There are 10 competitors who will be taking home the 25-year sandstone trophy and nine who will stay warm with a 30-year commemorative letterman’s jacket. Incredibly, there are still five athletes who registered for all 31 years of the Games, Bruce Crane, Cal Dilworth, Huch Aoki, John SanMartini and Sid Smith.

The Games’ opening ceremonies is held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Dixie State University Legend Solar Stadium. The gates open and 6:00 p.m. and athletes are encouraged to arrive by at 6:30 p.m. to participate in the parade of athletes. The show itself begins at 7:00 p.m. and will include skydivers, singing and dancing, fireworks and the lighting of the Huntsman World Senior Games cauldron.

In addition, James Lawrence, the Iron Cowboy will be the night’s key note speaker. Lawrence is most famous for completing 50 Ironman distance triathlons in 50 consecutive days in all 50 states. He will share his experiences and lessons learned.

Check-in will continue Monday with the doors of the Dixie Center opening at 7:00 a.m. Athletes should bring their personalize QR code or their athlete number along with a photo ID.
