“The Global Cup is really unique,” says Merrill Barney, Sports Director for the Games.  “There really isn’t anything like it in the world.  Teams come and are playing for national pride.”

“The level of play is truly fantastic,” adds Kyle M Case, Games CEO.  “These are the best players in the world in their age division and they deliver a great show when they play.”

The teams alternate each year between men and women.  This year, the men will take the court.

In 2006, the Huntsman World Senior Games hosted the first ever Global Cup World Senior Volleyball Championship with six men’s teams competing.

This year’s teams hale from Brazil, Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, United States and Venezuela.  Several of the teams include former Olympians and world champions.

International Volleyball Rules govern play throughout the tournament, which will begin on Monday, October 11 and will culminate in the medal matches being played on Thursday, October 14.  Pool play is free to watch and will take place in the Dixie Center.  The finals will be held at the Desert Hills High School Main Gym with the Bronze Medal games starting at 5:30 p.m..  Tickets for the finals are available for just $7.00 and will be sold at the Dixie Center beginning October 4 and at the door, the night of the finals.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend and cheer on their favorite team.  Huntsman World Senior Games athletes and volunteers will be able to attend the finals free of charge with their athlete identification.
